World renowned for its skiing, Aspen is of course a winter sports destination first and foremost. But it' snot just the skiing, or even the amazing summertime activities or the premiere dining options available that make Aspen such a draw. It's the rewarding and interesting cultural scene that makes Aspen so fascinating.
Cultural activities in Aspen include the Aspen Theater which features contemporary and classical productions. The Aspen Museum of Art features exhibitions from around the globe that is are dynamic and ever changing. There is even the Aspen ballet company that puts on performances throughout the year. There is an incredible balance that can be achieved of cultural sophistication and sports pursuits which is much desired in the rest of the world, but seldom accomplished.
Sarah Lasser, sales director of the Aspen Resort Association says, “We are very fortunate to have rich art and cultural organizations and programming throughout the year.” It's always a great time to travel to Aspen.
Aspen started as a small mining camp, which then turned into a mining town, and only much later transformed into the world class ski resort it is today. And now it is the most sophisticated cultural center in all of Pitkin County, as well as of course center base for 4 world class destination ski mountains. There is Aspen Mountain, Aspen Highlands, Buttermilk, and Snowmass, and the great thing is, a ticket from one is good for skiing all the resorts.
In the summertime, there's almost more to do in Aspen than in the winter. The town is a central hub to people going out on fly fishing tours, rock climbing, horseback riding, 4x4 Jeep tours, the list goes on and on. The kayaking and white-water rafting is some of the best in the world. Also, the hot air balloon rides provide some of the most breath-taking views of the Rockies. So be it summer or winter, there is a ton of fun to be had in Aspen.
Into Yoga? Well fantastic. The Environmental Studies Aspen center has yoga sessions right by the beautiful lake in the wonderful mountain fresh air. It really does not get much better than this folk. Your true inner self will be thanking you for many years to come for such a rewarding experience.
There is of course also world class shopping in the town itself. Designer boutique shops look gorgeous set within the pedestrian brick malls. As you stroll along window shopping, you'll see Maroon Bell Mountains in the background. So even the shopping experience in Aspen is simply breath taking.
All in all, any day in Aspen is like a dream. If you happen to be a bit more budget conscious, consider coming to Aspen during the off season. There is still plenty to do, including famous events such as the Aspen Film Festival as well as the Aspen Culinary Food Festival. You will find most accommodation to be offered at much lower rates, and most dining establishments will be featuring some sort of “off-season” special to entice hungry customer. Frequently this will be the world class menu they usually offer at up to 50% off, so truly a great bargain, and a great time to come visit Aspen.
